Welcome to the UBC Mech 351 design project 2001-2002 website: Hovercraft!
As a part of the requirements for the Mech 351 design course, we have to undertake a design project in small groups. Early in the term, numerous projects were proposed-- various SAE automotive-related projects, the SUBC submarine, the Solutions projects for special-needs equipment, and several others. One project stood out-- a hovercraft enthusiast, Brent Dennis, came to UBC to give a presentation about hovercraft, and a group of us were intrigued... Intrigued enough to sign up to design and build a hovercraft to race in the "entry-level" competition in Terre Haute, Indiana in September 2002.

Recent News:
03/19/2002: We've been working on the hovercraft for a few months now, and we're starting to wonder whether we'll ever receive the funding we supposedly won as a result of the AMS' "Innovative Projects Fund", and so we're in need of either sponsors or funding (to be honest, in order to make it to the races in Indiana we'll need additional funding beyond what the AMS says they'll provide us with), so it's come time to continue the development of this website.
03/10/2002: Due to the BC schoolteachers' labour dispute, some of the high-school teams won't be able to make it to the summer races in Fort Langley, and as such it has been cancelled. Well, not exactly cancelled-- it's now a "hover-in" which will not be officially open to the general public, and will not have any scheduled races... Who knows what competitions might spring up on-the-spot, though!
11/23/2001: New site setup complete, though still lacking graphics, and MTRS.org still doesn't have the same level of content that I'd like it to...
